Spain visa income requirements 2026
Every Spanish residence route has a financial threshold tied to the IPREM or the SMI. This table converts those legal references into the monthly figures consulates and immigration offices actually ask for, including the extra amounts per family member.
The two reference figures
IPREM
600 € / month
Public multi-purpose income indicator. Used by the Non-Lucrative Visa, student visa, family reunification and EU registration.
SMI
1184 € / month
Statutory minimum wage, paid in 14 instalments. Used by the Digital Nomad Visa and arraigo routes.

Route by route
- Digital Nomad Visa
- Gross income from foreign employers or clients. Add 75% SMI for the first family member and 25% SMI for each additional one.
- Non-Lucrative Visa
- Passive income or savings — you may not work. Consulates normally want the full annual amount (28.800 €) already available.
- Student Visa
- Plus proof of enrolment and health cover for the whole stay.
- Family reunification
- Proven by the sponsor's last 6 months of income, plus adequate housing certified by the town hall.
- Arraigo (social/labour)
- The threshold sits on the employment contract, not on savings. Self-employment plans must show equivalent projected income.
- EU registration certificate
- For non-working EU citizens; public or private health cover is required.
- Highly Qualified Professional
- No IPREM threshold: the salary must match the sector's collective agreement and the qualified-role bands used by the UGE-CE.

Open the checkerFrequently asked questions
- Are these figures gross or net?
- The Digital Nomad Visa is assessed on gross income from foreign employers or clients. The Non-Lucrative Visa is assessed on funds genuinely available to you, so consulates look at net income and account balances together.
- Can savings replace monthly income?
- For the Non-Lucrative Visa, yes: a lump sum covering the full annual amount is accepted, and is often preferred over irregular income. For the Digital Nomad Visa, savings alone do not qualify — there must be a genuine remote activity.
- Do the amounts change during the year?
- Yes. The IPREM is set in the annual State Budget Act and the SMI by Royal Decree, both published in the BOE. When either is revised, every threshold on this page moves with it, including files already in progress that have not yet been resolved.
- What happens if I am slightly below the threshold?
- Applications are refused on arithmetic, not intent. Below the threshold the realistic options are restructuring the income evidence, adding a co-applicant's income where the route allows it, or changing route entirely.
